IPF Club Scoring

When we run a club competition as part of an Open or other Championships, the following scoring rules apply:

Individual Placing Scores

Lifters are awarded 12 points for first place, 9 points for second, 8 for third, and so on descending until every lifter who totals gets 1 point.

If a weight class has five lifters or less than the scoring system is modified to: 9, 7, 6, 5, 4.

This is summarised in the following table:

Overall Team Scores

The overall score for a given club is calculated as the Top 5 individual lifter scores for that club resulting in a maximum total of 60 points (5 x 1st Places in Classes with More Than 5 Lifters).

For example, if a club had the following finishes:

  • -63kg: 1st, 12 points
  • -63kg: 3rd, 8 points
  • -84kg: 2nd, 9 points
  • -66kg: 11th, 1 point
  • -74kg: 6th: 5 points
  • -93kg: 3rd: 6 points (5 or less lifters in class)
  • -105kg: 1st, 12 points

Then their total score would not be 53 points (12 + 8 + 9 + 1 + 5 + 6 + 12), instead, it would be 47 points (12 + 8 + 9 + 6 + 12) as only the Top 5 point scores count:

  • -63kg: 1st, 12 points
  • -63kg: 3rd, 8 points
  • -84kg: 2nd, 9 points
  • -66kg: 11th, 1 point
  • -74kg: 6th: 5 points
  • -93kg: 3rd: 6 points (5 or less lifters in class)
  • -105kg: 1st, 12 points

If two teams are equal on points, then the Wilks scores for their Top 5 lifters are added up and used as the tie-breaker.

This scoring may differ from time to time for specific competitions (e.g. All Irelands) but unless explicitly stated on the competition details page then this scoring applies.

We hope this clears up any confusion regarding IPF Club Scoring.
