Notification of Anti-Doping Rule Violation in the Irish Powerlifting Federation

Dear members,

The International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) announced today that a member of the Irish Powerlifting Federation, Jody Stevens, has received a 22-month sanction for an anti-doping rule violation.

The athlete was tested on April 16th, 2023 at Junior Nationals and the presence of Methylhexanamine (commonly known as DMAA) was found. This is listed on the WADA Prohibited List as an S6 stimulant.

The athlete’s period of ineligibility will conclude on February 16th 2025. Until then, she is subject to a prohibition against participation as per Article 10.4.1 of the IPF Anti-Doping Rules.

We would like to use this opportunity to remind athletes to take extreme care when consuming supplements or pre-workouts and ensure that you search all alternative names for ingredients and check them against the WADA Prohibited List.

Athletes should also avoid anything that lists “proprietary blends” as you are unable to check what these ingredients are.
