About Us

Our Mission

The Irish Powerlifting Federation’s mission is to attract and develop the best powerlifters in Ireland by providing excellent competitions, internationally accredited coaching, a fair playing field, and the opportunity to compete against the best in the world.

We are affiliated with both the European Powerlifting Federation (EPF) and the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF). The International Powerlifting Federation is the global governing body for powerlifting and is part of the World Games, organised and governed by the International World Games Association (IWGA), which is recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). These associations provide Irish athletes with a path to the most prestigious and competitive powerlifting championships in the world.

Anti-Doping

Both the Irish Powerlifting Federation and the International Powerlifting Federation are completely committed to anti-doping and ‘Playing True’. All of our testing is conducted using WADA accredited personnel and laboratories.

The International Powerlifting Federation spent over €125,000 in 2016 and over €140,000 in 2017 on it’s anti-doping programme. Locally, the Irish Powerlifting Federation spent over €10,000 in 2016 and over €12,000 in 2017 on our anti-doping efforts representing c. 26% of our annual expenditure.

Our History

The Irish Powerlifting Federation was formed in 2015 and affiliated to the European Powerlifting Federation and International Powerlifting Federation after over a decade of no Irish affiliation being in place. Since then we have grown to almost 1,000 competitive members and competed at both European and World Powerlifting Championships every year since 2016.
